Personal origin, in service of the client

Hi, I'm Deniz.

I came to this work through movement.

Before I was a therapist, I was a dancer. For decades, I lived inside what the body knows when it is given full permission to express; the intelligence of it, the grief inside it, the way sensation carries what language cannot. Dance was not something I performed. It was how I understood the world.

Alongside the movement work, I spent sixteen years inside the most acute edges of psychiatric care at Bellevue Hospital in New York, working with adults in crisis, with incarcerated men navigating mental illness, with adolescents in profound pain. I learned, in that container, the full weight of what a human nervous system can hold. I also learned what it needs to heal: not fixing, not analysing. Presence. Attunement. Safety that is felt in the body, not just promised in words.

What I practice now is the integration of all of it. The clinical rigor. The somatic intelligence. The dancer's understanding that the body does not lie — and that it also knows, with tremendous precision, exactly how to find its way back.

How I practice

I draw from Dance Movement Therapy, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, somatic modalities, and the Safe and Sound Protocol. But the framework beneath all of it is the same: we follow the nervous system. We listen to what the body is communicating, not just the narrative on top of it, and we create the conditions for what has been held to finally move.

Sessions can look different from week to week. Some days we sit and speak. Some days we move to the table and I work with my hands, attending to your body's rhythms, the fluid systems, the cranial motion, the tissue holding. Some days you close your eyes and move without plan or direction, while I witness. Some days we sit in near-silence while something integrates itself.

What remains consistent is the quality of attention I bring. I am not watching you from a clinical distance. I am in it with you; regulated, present, tracking not just your words but your breath, your gesture, the places in your body where something lifts or braces or goes quiet.
